![]() ![]() ![]() Once I researched an article or topic in Obsidian, I transferred the note's contents into Ulysses for final editing. ![]() I can then open the mind node file and edit it. In addition, when I save the MindNote itself in my Obsidian vault, I can see a JPG preview in Obsidian. The best feature that I use with Obsidian is that once I create the mind map in MindNode, I can export it as a markdown and save it in my Obsidian vault. MindNode is a simple tool that allows me to capture complex ideas through a clean user interface quickly.ġ) Quick entry for quickly adding my text to the mind mapĢ) Multiple themes so I can change the mind map look and feelģ) Add images to mind maps which help from a visual recall point of view. Instead, I have been using MindNode, which has both a desktop application and a mobile application. Obsidian has some plugins that let you create mind maps, but I have never got on with them in the Obsidian Mobile app. I am a fan of mind maps to help me outline and build out ideas and organise answers to complex questions. For example, I use this to record meetings and type up the notes into Obsidian. CleanShot X provides many features to edit the image.Ģ) Pixelating images to hide critical informationģ) Highlighting box, which lets you highlight specific areas for the imagesĤ) Auto-numbering allows you to a step number to your imagesĬleanShot X also lets you record video to create a movie file or gif to use elsewhere. I do this as I always forget the shortcut (Shift, Command and three or Shift, Command and four for a portion of the screen).īut sometimes, I need to edit the image before using it in Obsidian. I created an Alfred workflow for quick screenshots to run the Mac OS X inbuilt screenshot app. TextSniper has saved me a lot of time from retyping text from different image and video sources. Then, TextSniper tells you once it's complete and all you have to do is paste it into your note. Once Activated, I select the area with the text I want. So when I have created notes in Obsidian, it is easier for me to copy the text into Obsidian notes than to manually type it out. TextSniper is an application that lets me capture text from images and videos. This post will list the applications I use and how I use them with Obsidian. ![]() Therefore, I have been using Setapp to provide a host of software for a monthly fee. I tested out CloudKit which is very robust but as we’ve discussed CloudKit doesn’t include Obsidian vault files in it’s sync so it doesn’t help with Mac to Mac syncing.įWIW I’ve also been testing out directly syncing the NotePlan data folders between two Macs using Resilio sync which seems to work pretty well.Įdit: I still think NotePlan is a great option for accessing between a Mac and a mobile device but things get more complicated if you want to sync your notes across two Macs.As excellent as Obsidian plugins are, sometimes I need to use additional applications to get it to work with my workflows, and if I do find a plugin, it might not have all the features that I need. I think based on this Dropbox sync is still too unreliable to meaningfully work between both apps at the same time. This is important because you would expect to open your Obsidian vault based on the Dropbox folder but that’s not necessarily the latest version of a file. If you open a note in finder from NotePlan you’ll see it goes to the container folder, not directly to the Dropbox. It seems like NotePlan speaks to the API which then sends the file to your Dropbox folder. It’s also weird because NotePlan doesn’t directly read the files on your Dropbox folder like you would expect.NotePlan notes were hit and miss and I got a bunch of issues creating a file one machine and then seeing duplicates on the other.Mac to Mac seemed more reliable than Mac to iOS. Daily notes sync’d pretty well, I didn’t see major issues and sync was relatively quick (5-10 seconds typically from making an update on one device to seeing it another.I did a fresh install of NotePlan across a couple of devices (iOS and Mac) and set it up with a clean version of Dropbox sync. As it’s Friday I spent a bit of time playing with NotePlan again to see how the latest betas are performing. ![]()
